Zelenskyy’s Plane Nearly Hit by Drone Before Flight to Norway, PM Says
DATELINE: Oslo, September 10, 2026
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has said that a plane carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy nearly encountered a drone while departing from Moldova for Norway.
The incident reportedly occurred as Zelenskyy was travelling to Oslo to attend events connected with the state funeral of Norway’s King Harald V. The reported drone activity temporarily raised concerns about aviation safety in the region.
Norwegian authorities have highlighted the incident as another indication of the wider security challenges facing Europe amid the continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Zelenskyy later arrived safely in Norway and held discussions with Norwegian officials. Norway remains one of Ukraine's important European supporters and has provided political, humanitarian and military assistance.
The incident has also renewed attention on the security of European airspace, particularly in countries close to the ongoing conflict.
