Israel Gives Britain 30-Day Deadline to Close Its East Jerusalem Consulate
LOCATION: Jerusalem, September 11, 2026
Israel has given Britain a 30-day deadline to close its consulate in East Jerusalem following a diplomatic dispute over sanctions introduced by the UK, France and Canada against goods produced in Israeli settlements.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said the decision was taken in response to what Israel considers interference in its domestic affairs. Israel has also announced additional measures affecting British officials and cooperation related to Gaza.
The diplomatic dispute comes ahead of Israel’s general election, scheduled for October 27. The latest developments have added further strain to relations between Israel and Britain.
The issue is being closely watched internationally as several Western countries continue to push for a negotiated two-state solution.
