Birmingham City Women Begin WSL Return With Defeat Against Manchester City

Birmingham City Women began their return to the Women's Super League with a 3-1 defeat against defending champions Manchester City.


The match remained goalless during the opening half before Manchester City increased the pressure after the break. Mary Fowler opened the scoring, while Khadija Shaw added two goals to give City a strong advantage. Birmingham's Oceane Hurtre later scored to give her side a consolation goal.


Birmingham had earned promotion to the WSL after finishing strongly in the previous campaign. The club will now look to build confidence and collect points as the new top-flight season continues.
