Spain Launches €1.5 Billion National Semiconductor Initiative to Drive Tech Manufacturing

 

VALENCIA / BARCELONA: The Spanish Ministry of Digital Transformation has officially launched the operational phase of its €1.5 billion national semiconductor strategy, widely known as PERTE Chip. The initiative aims to position Spain as a key design and manufacturing node within the European microchip supply chain.
The funding will establish state-of-the-art research laboratories and pilot manufacturing lines in collaboration with major technical universities in Valencia and Catalonia. Academic directors highlighted that the program will focus on designing next-generation microchips for electric vehicles and artificial intelligence architectures. By building domestic manufacturing capabilities, Spain aims to protect its vital automotive and technological sectors from global supply chain disruptions.
