Landmark Sherwood Forest Conservation Initiative Launched to Restore Ancient Woodland

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE: To counter the compounding pressures of climate shifts and urban encroachment, the Nottinghamshire County Council, in partnership with environmental charities, has launched a historic conservation project for Sherwood Forest. The long-term initiative introduces strict environmental protections and a massive reforestation campaign to plant over 250,000 native oak and birch trees across the historic woodland.

Under the new environment mandates, specific ecologically sensitive zones will be permanently shielded from intensive tourism and commercial development to protect fragile wildlife habitats, including rare bird species and ancient fungal ecosystems. Furthermore, forestry authorities will deploy automated canopy drones and satellite data to monitor soil health and track tree disease outbreaks in real-time.
